Melanson - Manager/Coordinator
Pipe Major Patrick Melanson BA, MEd, CD, WO (ret’d.)
brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the
musical world in general - and the piping world in
particular. For over 30 years, he has served in pipe
bands, rising through the ranks of the Canadian Armed
Forces Reserve from private to Deputy Pipe Major in the
1Bn, NSH(N), as well as founding and leading the 105
Cumberland Wing, RCAFA Pipes & Drums.
Pat had
the privilege of being one of three Household Pipers to
Her Majesty, the Queen Mother during her Royal Visit to
the Nova Scotia International Tattoo in 1979. Pat has
been a competitive piper in band and solo piping and has
taught piping both in the army and privately for over 25
years. He has performed on his pipes in
Canada
, the
United States
,
England
and
Ireland
. He has travelled and performed with the musical group
Drimindown and is the founder and a current member of
Killick, a group that was noted as one of CBC Radio
Artists of the Week and performed at the 2006 Lunenburg
Folk Harbour Festival. He has performed musically on
several CD’s, in addition to his participation in six
Nova Scotia Tattoos and their recordings.
